PNB refuses to give info on defaulters, NPAs

MUMBAI: Scam-hit Punjab National Bank (PNB) has refused to share information on its wilful defaulters and Non-Performing Assets (NPA) under the RTI Act stating that it is not in public interest and would disproportionately divert resources of public authority because the data is not readily available.

Nirav Modi had defrauded the bank of Rs 12,600 crore with the help of its officials though letter of undertaking (LoU).

RTI activist, Jeetendra Ghadge, had asked the bank to provide the list of wilful defaulters, the amount involved and the action initiated against them. He also sought information on NPA, with names of individuals, banks and amount, notices issued under The Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest Act, 2002 and recovery.
