Why does the Toyota Innova sell?
The Toyota Innova sold more than 7k units last month. The top-end costs Rs 22.3 lakh. It is the most expensive MPV and yet outsells everything else. Why? Just brand? Nope. It is pretty clear in today one needs to look at Toyota on how to build and retain its customer base and expand. Right from the Qualis, Toyota has been known for making reliable people movers and the Qualis won fans for its reliability and honest nature. It did what it did very well and that is why some people still have it! Replacing such a car was a task but Toyota shocked with the Innova.
Here the styling, interiors, comfort and sheer reliability meant over the boxier and dated Qualis, the Innova with all the qualities but with added finesses took off. That is where the Innova phenomenon was born. Sales peaked and in-fact it as a car it has the highest turn-over for any manufacturer. No other car has been doing it gen after gen and having such a market domination. You could say the Maruti Dzire or Honda City are also examples.
So why does it sell? Lack of rivals? Yes but also other reasons. For example we cannot recommend a more comfortable car at this price. The new Innova Crysta which again was a risk going premium and being more expensive has paid off big time. So many previous Innova owners traded in but also it found new owners looking for a comfortable car and reliable. The last part. The biggest reason along with the new found comfort and luxury is reliability. The Innova just soldiers on and cars with more than a lakh km are still sold at a premium. It is bullet proof and takes any terrain and nothing goes wrong.
This reliability plus excellent re-sale means nothing will ever touch it no matter how more expensive the Innova gets. Also Toyota service is amongst the most competitive in price for a Rs 20 lakh plus car which again is a big factor. Thus to answer not just the product but the brand, after sales, reliability all make it unbeatable so it will continue to sell well.
